Description
When Butter joined The Catterie, he was named for the Butterbeer 1592 Brew, as his colors and sweetness where similar to the wonderfully swirled beverage, but Wilamina decided instead of having (2) Butterbeer Soappes from The House of Wormwood, she would create a NEW RECIPE inspired by his Gingery-goodness!
Rescued February 2016
Butter aka Butterbeer, aka Butterbutt, aka Butterbean, started poking around the Catterie. Heʼd come to see the other outside kitties and then be gone for quite some time, presumably making the rounds. Once he declared himself interested in being rescued (yes, they do that), he’d hang around the Catterie at night, sleeping in a tight little ball near the garden. Heʼd meow to the otherʼs as if to say “Hi, Iʼm Butter!” and would lurk in the shadows during the day, watching. Heʼd “smile” with his eyes, closing them slowly, when spoken to. He was clearly not a feral cat, but dumped, or lost. He wasnʼt looking too good. He seemed to have an upper respiratory infection, and a wound behind his left ear, just like Van Pogh, so Wilamina knew he had ear-mites. Ouch!
Procedures were taken in order to safeguard the others. It was time to set a trap. Wilamina had never trapped a kitty before, but it was important to get some answers. Cut to two weeks later, a successful trapping, testing, neutering, and recovery, Butter was released…and back to lurking in the shadows.
He allowed Wilamina to touch him a year after he started showing up, and now is one of her favorites. He is a supper sunny kitty, chirping and saying hello to everyone who comes by. Last Spring Butter wouldnʼt come into the Catterie, as was the routine at night. The next morning he was nowhere to be found. Days past and Wilamina was convinced he had been “claimed by nature.” Devastated, she worked with neighbors who thought they had seen him in their yard…over a mile away. Driving and calling his name, each night at sundown, she never gave up. Finally 9 weeks later, he showed up again at the Catterie, and to this day, doesnʼt stray too far away from it. He knows he is safe and loved with her.
