Rescued September 2010
Matilda, aka Calamity Mattie, aka Mattie, was brought to The House of Wormwood by the same neighbor who “rescued” Handsome and Smokey. In fact, it was her daughter that knocked on the door, hoping Wilamina would take in the tiny kitten, saying she got it from a lady in front of the grocery store (not a safe way to find a new home for an animal). Wilamina said no. Instead she told the girl, it looked like a healthy kitten, and if it was taken to the shelter, chances were very good that it would be adopted. Well…Wilamina tried. Three days later Mattie made her way from the neighborʼs to The House of Wormwoodʼs front porch, apparently wanting to hang out with Handsome and Smokey. It was a grey-cat convention!
Mattie is a firecracker. Sheʼs a tough little nut, who doesnʼt suffer fools, sheʼs talkative, growls
when angry or scared, loves to cuddle in your armpit, and stick her head in hot, just worn
shoes…and fall asleep. (Itʼs weird.) She is the Calamity Jane of The House of Wormwood.
