The story of Wormwood’s 7 Thieves
Wilamina Wormwood created a Thieves Oil recipe her first year as proprietress of The Alchemist Tree Soapsmiths in 2000.
Researching recipes appropriate for the genre, Theives Oil was an ideal addition to her first Faire Wares, as it was used during the 15th century’s Black Plague, by the 4 men who were the oil’s original creators.
Story has it these thieves were actually spice traders & merchants who imported spices, including cinnamon & clove from India. When the Black Plague swept across Europe, all international shipping and trade was ordered to stop. Unable to do business, they had to find another way to support themselves.
Since people were afraid to touch the dead bodies, these resourceful thieves decided to loot the homes & bodies of the plague victims. They would take clothes, jewelry, (above ground or under) and then barter or trade the stolen loot for food & money.
They believed they wouldn’t get sick if they rubbed vinegar, oils, and certain spices all over their bodies.
And it worked.
And word got out.
Now the essential oil components of this original recipe consisted of Rosemary, Cinnamon, Clove, Lemon, and Eucalyptus, but in The House of Wormwood’s 21st century creation, Wilamina Wormwood adds Lavender & Tea Tree for extra potency as an anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and skin healing “Protective Potion.”
In the midst of the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic, Wilamina has decided to transform her amazing 7 Thieves Protective Potion into her new Shea Butter & Colloidal Oatmeal Soappe.
Perfect for the Plague.
Cellar Stowage Special Ingredients:
Shea Butter has been produced as early as the 14th century. This triglyceride (fat) is extracted from a nut on the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa) and is amazing for hair and skin.
Colloidal Oatmeal is made by grinding oat grain (Avena sativa) into a fine powder. It’s considered an emollient which is a substance that softens or soothes the skin because it packs fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients shown to benefit the skin. Its fine powder texture gently exfoliates dead skin cells, allowing the other soappe ingredients to be even more beneficial for the skin.
Wash your hands, face, and body with this soothing, anti-bacterial recipe.
